I thought it might be of interest to look at a few signals recently made and under construction 4mm Scale GWR lower quadrant tubular bracket signal. Features working lamps -warm white smd leds (not switched on for photo) servo motors fitted.
Constructional details:
Modelu finials
MSE arms, weight bars and brackets from detail etch version (2)
MSE bracket from original etch
Handrails from 0.33mm Nickel Silver wire, operating rods from same wire but chemically blackened
Support post cap is from brass rod turned on lathe.
Spectacle Lenses are from the coloured acetate sheets from Wizard Models and others plus canopy glue coloured with Tamiya Acrylic X27 and X23 where appropriate.
Apart from the working lights this signal
is similar to those built for a Layout based on Bewdley in the mid 1960’s, which has appeared on the exhibition circuit pre-Covid. It has also featured in the Model Railway Press.
Of course being WR of that era their posts are painted aluminium rather than white. (Strangely enough, photographic evidence suggests that the gallows starter signal there always had a white post and was never repainted in aluminium).
